Planning a destination wedding to Kauai? You will most likely do a lot of research online. If you are planning a wedding without an event coordinator, here are some helpful links.
Marriage License
It’s easy to apply for your marriage license in Hawaii. The marriage license application is online and can be submitted anytime before your wedding. Here is the Application for a Hawaii Marriage License of Civil Union License.
After applying for your marriage license, you will want to make an appointment with a Marriage License Agent in Hawaii, but not more than 30 days before your wedding. (Once issued, the marriage license is only valid for 30 days.) So, you can apply anytime, but don’t make your appointment to get it issued more than 30 days in advance of your wedding. Once you have your marriage license in hand, it expires after 30 days.
I can give you a more complete list of marriage license agents, with their location, phone number, and email when you contact me, so you can choose an agent closest to where you are staying on Kauai.
Be prepared by filling in your marriage license application fully in advance, before making an appointment with a licensing agent. Bring your Locator ID number with you, along with your photo ID for both of you, and cash for those marriage license agents who charge a service fee. Please be on time for your appointment! The agent (and the wedding couple with the time slot after you) will appreciate your preparedness.

Have your own photographer? Great! But please be sure they are aware of what locations are permitted and which are off-limits. The photographers below respect the laws here on Kauai.

Flytographer on Kauai is another option for a couples or family photo shoot, if you don’t want wedding photos but just a simple signing, commitment ceremony or vow renewal with a photo shoot separately afterward or on a different day. Most photo shoots are under $400 with Flytographer, available at various destinations.

Florists
Flowers can really add a splash of color or elegance to your event. You can order flowers in advance from a florist’s website and have them delivered or pick them up. Some flower shops have ready-made leis and arrangements for walk-in customers, or you might want to visit one of the flower shops on Kauai to order your flowers in person.
It’s probably wisest to choose a florist near where you are staying, or on the way to your ceremony location!
Eastside Florists in Kapaa or Lihue
Flowers Forever is probably Kauai’s oldest florist shop. Located at 2979 Kalena St, Lihue, HI 808-245-4717
The Pua Bar can make you a custom floral arrangement or bouquet or can assist you in making your own bouquet and other florals for your wedding. Located in the historic Kilohana Plantation in Lihue, The Pua Bar is one of Kauai’s newest florist shops.
Tropical Flowers Express is a vendor at various Farmer’s Markets around the island. They might be at the Coconut Marketplace Farmer’s Market on Tuesdays and Thursday 9am-12pm.
Safeway – in Kapaa – or Lihue has ready made leis or you can special order other arrangements for your event. Find Safeway Florists at 4-831 Kuhio Hwy Kapaa, HI or at 4454 Nuhou St. Lihue, HI
Heavenly Hakus Elvrine Chow can also be found at the Weekly Aloha Market at National Tropical Botanical Gardens every Thursday on the south side and offers monthly workshops for making haku lei at the Coconut Marketplace in Kapaa.
For budget walk in – ready made options, try Costco, Target or Walmart in Lihue which have a selection of ready made leis at very affordable prices. Also try Foodland, Safeway, Sueoka’s, Big Save and Long’s which usually have leis too. Don’t forget the Farmer’s Markets, which often have tropical flowers for sale.

Lei Making Workshops
Would you and your bridal party like to create your own haku leis or lei po’o? There are workshops to do just that, as well as some traditional flower and leaf lei workshops.

Wedding Musicians
Having a musician adds a warm and lively element to your wedding, even if it’s on the beach! Here are a few of the musicians I enjoy working with.

Mike Keale has a beautiful voice and a smooth style with contemporary and nostalgic music, adding a wonderful element to your wedding when he’s not playing at one of the Popular Hawaiian Music Venues on Kauai. His wife Linda keeps up that local blog page, where you can hear many of the local Hawaiian musicians. A great resource, if you love Hawaiian music!
Pancho Graham is a versatile guitarist and Hawaiian Slack Key artist and will add the joy of music to your event.
Garret Santos plays guitar and ukulele for various events, mostly on the north shore. No website, but I can see if he’s available for your date. I can share his song list, so you can make your choices.
Bonnie Vannoy has an extensive song list for you to choose from.

Pau Hana Pours is a mobile bar service that comes to your event with all the drinks.
Kauai Vintage Trailer is new on the scene and can be used as a mobile bar or something else, use your imagination!
Yumi’s Yummies is based on the north shore. Yumi Teraguchi specializes in delicious organic locally grown and very tasty dishes. She can use your kitchen to finish the preparations for a delicious fresh and healthy celebratory meal. From intimate to small groups, brunch, lunch or dinner!

Orly Patisserie at Hokulei Village in Lihue creates all kinds of goodies, including wedding cakes.
Safeway, Foodland, Costco and most other bakeries can set you up with a small wedding cake with a week’s notice. Alternatively, you might opt for something different, such as a fruit tart or Lilikoi Pie from one of the other small specialty bakeries on Kauai. Kawaii Kokoro, Haole Girl Sweets and many others.
There are other small non-professional bakers who can make specialty cakes, no websites, just word of mouth.

Venues for Weddings, Receptions and Rehearsal Dinners
North Shore
The Makai Golf Course in Princeville offers a breathtakingly beautiful ceremony location on the 7th hole, sunset golf cart tours, small reception or rehearsal dinner area at their Clubhouse.
The Hanalei Bay Resort in Princeville has very lush surroundings, and several wedding venues, such as the “wedding walk” and the pool waterfall location, as well as tram transportation to the beach for the ceremony or photos. Deb, the event coordinator can set you up with everything you need!
Princeville’s 1 Hotel at Hanalei Bay is a delightful venue, with outdoor and indoor locations on property, or on the Puu Poa Beach, fronting the resort. You can request me as your officiant. Yes, I am one of their preferred vendors!
Kalihiwai Waterfall in Kilauea is a lovely intimate setting for a private wedding on private property. I can reserve the waterfall for 1 hour or more, and give you more information on this idyllic setting.
Anaina Hou Community Park, can accommodate your wedding, reception or rehearsal dinner, at the Porter Pavilion or other areas surrounding Kauai Mini Golf. How about a rehearsal dinner with mini golf?
Na Aina Kai is a botanical garden park with access to a private beach, waterfall, mahogany woods. Available also for engagement or wedding photo shoots, if you have your wedding elsewhere. I am an approved wedding officiant with Na Aina Kai.
Hale Halawai is a community center with a bit of a rustic feel and room to accommodate the wedding ceremony and perhaps a casual outdoor reception afterward. Gorgeous view of the mountains. Whole property can be reserved for $500 per hour.
East Side
Kintaro Kauai in Wailua has private tatami rooms that can be reserved for special dinners and can accommodate up to 28 people. Check them out for your rehearsal dinner or for after your wedding!
NaPali Brewery in Wailua has a private section of their dining area that can be reserved for special occasions.
The Hukilau Lanai at the Kauai Coast Resort in Kapaa, behind the Coconut Marketplace, has an outdoor wedding ceremony spot, or an indoor garden room setting, with excellent food for your reception!
Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort, in Kapaa, offers a beautiful outdoor setting, plus indoor reception areas. Your wedding party can stay on the premises, making it very convenient!
Oasis on the Beach, at Waipouli Beach Resort. Rent out the entire restaurant for your wedding reception!
Smith’s Tropical Paradise and Luau makes an easy wedding ceremony location with the luau for your reception or rehearsal dinner, maybe combine the fun with a boat ride up to the Fern Grotto. Weddings can also be performed on the viewing platform at the famous Fern Grotto.
The Plantation House at Gaylords in Lihue makes a beautiful ceremony and reception venue. The restaurant also makes an elegant dining option for lunch or dinner after a morning or afternoon beach ceremony.
Iliahi Estate in Lihue is an excellent choice for private events. A coordinator can assist you with booking this venue.
Kauai Beach Resort in Lihue offers a grassy area with an ocean view for weddings, with the reception in one of their banquet rooms. They can set you up with a coordinator to plan your wedding or just the reception after a wedding on the public Nukolii Beach.
Hilton Garden Inn offers a wedding gazebo with an ocean view and banquet wedding reception area. Located right above Lydgate Beach Park, it’s a convenient east side location.
South Shore
National Tropical Botanical Gardens in Koloa has several ceremony sites and allows catering on site. I love performing weddings here! I can send you their current rate sheet. Intimate weddings, I can help you. Larger ones, you might want a coordinator.
Sheraton Kauai Resort has a lovely oceanfront outdoor lawn venues for weddings. Substitute me in as your wedding officiant.
The Beach House Restaurant in Poipu is a popular special occasion venue, especially at sunset. They allow wedding ceremonies on their lawn, so request me as your officiant!
The Grand Hyatt Kauai in Poipu has outdoor and indoor ceremony and reception areas. Just request me as your officiant and have them subtract the cost of a minister off your wedding package.
Koloa Landing Resort can help you plan your event on Property. Substitute me in for their officiant. 🙂
West Side
Waimea Plantation Cottages is a bit removed from most of the island happenings, but it’s dependably dry and warm there. The lawn area under the Banyan Tree is lovely! The manager’s cottage is often used as the bridal suite. Have your entire wedding party stay here, and kids can run and play on the lawn!
The Kekaha Boat Harbor House is an all in one wedding venue and reception lawn, with a house for getting ready. Hire a local west side coordinator such as Marlene Mira, Rachel Whitney or Heather Singleton to assist you with the planning here. See my wedding coordinators closer to the top of this page.

For hikers and campers, the cabins make a great honeymoon adventure! You can get a special use permit to have a wedding ceremony and reception in the Meadow. I can provide more details by email.
Kukuiolono Park is an affordable option for a garden wedding and/or outdoor pavilion reception. They don’t have a website, but I can send you photos by email. (Only $100 for 2 hours. Yes, that’s right!)
